About Taitung Forest Park

Taitung Forest Park, located along Taiwan’s southeastern coast in Taitung City, spans approximately 280 hectares of protected urban forest and wetlands. Though relatively small compared to national parks, it provides an important green space amidst Taitung’s subtropical environment. The park features evergreen broadleaf forests, planted cypress groves, and several artificial lakes such as Pipa Lake, which cultivate a rich habitat for migratory birds and diverse aquatic species. Established in the 1980s to preserve coastal forestland and provide recreational spaces, Taitung Forest Park has become a favored destination for locals and tourists alike looking for relaxation and nature immersion. Popular activities include cycling along the park's extensive paved bike paths, jogging, birdwatching, and photography, especially at sunrise or sunset when the park’s ponds reflect vibrant skies. The park's flat terrain and well-maintained trails make it accessible to visitors of all ages and abilities, making it a family-friendly outdoor space. Notable landmarks include scenic lakeside pavilions and a recently added wooden birdwatching tower that provides elevated views over the wetlands. Its proximity to the Pacific Ocean and Taitung city center makes it an oasis of calm where visitors can escape urban noise while enjoying the region’s rich ecological diversity.
